NEWS
8/28/2009 12:00:00 AM - Heads up, everyone. Whoever has already registered for the event via the Event Site can now log in using their account details and use the newly-activated "Download Registration Card" option to print out a small personalized barcode card. It is by no means compulsory (so don’t fret if you forget, or can’t be bothered to do it), but it will certainly speed up your on-site registration significantly.
8/18/2009 12:00:01 AM - Ladies and gentlemen, anyone still looking to book a room, please note that we will be unable to guarantee availability and the prices quoted on the event website past the 25th of August. So, anyone who is planning to visit and has yet to book a room, please contact Mr. Trachiotis BEFORE the 25th of August. The venue’s room availability is already severely limited.
8/18/2009 12:00:00 AM - By popular demand (by which we mean that Pablo threatened to go all Moto Chen on us if we didn’t announce this), we would like to announce a new side-event for Saturday night aptly called the Test of the Shogun. Read more about it at the event blog!
8/16/2009 12:00:00 AM - We have just published pictures of the promos that will be available at the tournament. You can check them out at the event blog!
7/15/2009 8:40:00 PM - We want your trivia! As you may have read on the various forums, we're setting up an L5R trivia game and we want your contribution. Click here for more details!
7/15/2009 8:00:00 PM - The site now offers the option to edit your registration. Just log in and click "Edit Registration". Note that some fields are fixed and cannot be changed.
7/7/2009 8:07:14 PM - Storyline prizes have been posted on the site. But, since we can't yet reveal everything -- oh noes! The prize has been redacted! Still, you can see the titles, and just key, juicy bits. We already know exactly what the prize for the main and secondary events will be, but we caaaan't teeeeell you yeeeet. ;)
7/7/2009 8:06:31 PM - The event registration system is now tied into Twitter! When you register, the system automatically twits about it through our L5R2009 Twitter account, including some registration statistics (such as total numbe of players already registered, clan breakdown etc). Unless you have specified otherwise, the information twitted about your registration is completely anonymous.
7/7/2009 8:05:39 PM - The event registration and information site is now live - and not a moment too soon! Through the site, you can pre-register for the tournament, find a hotel that suits your budget, check out the venue, or plan your gaming according to the schedule.
The Venue

The tournament will take place in the conference rooms of the Stratos Vassilikos hotel (see hotels) in Athens, Greece from Friday the 4th to Sunday the 6th of September. The hotel is situated centrally, surrounded by several other hotels and close to two metro stations (see map). The hotel sports a very airy and modern interior, friendly and capable staff and impeccable service.

Five fully equipped, air-conditioned conference rooms and a large atrium are available, all of which have been booked by the TO team for the 2009 European Championships in order to give players the space and comfort that they need to fully enjoy each and every game.

The large conference hall will be used for the Party, the cost of which is included in your registration fee and covers free beer, wine and soft drinks (see schedule). Additionally, as it's been a standing player request, the TOs have arranged for the hotel to be providing free coffee for everybody all through Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Oh, right. The hotel also offers free wi-fi; this is normally only available to guests, but we've arranged for it to be available to all tournament participants.

The hotel boasts a pretty good (though slightly expensive) restaurant for those who feel like treating themselves (or their unamused spouses) to a nice lunch/dinner. For a quicker, cheaper option, players will also be able to order snacks straight to the hotel staff. While the selection for the latter will be limited (probably a choice between a baguette, a hamburger with fries and a club sandwich with fries), the food is good (yes, we've tried it all) and affordable.

Additionally, for those who are really on a budget, the area around the venue is rife with restaurants and other sources of food (bakeries, cantinas, fast food outlets, convenience stores etc).

The hotel offers a rather good guide to the surrounding area, but if you're bringing company, we strongly suggest that you avoid Kolonaki. Really. Trust us. We know what's good for you ;)
